Hans-Joachim Roedelius, Onnen Bock, and Armin Metz step forward as Qluster for this stark and moving long-player for Bureau B. While it could be filed under ‘neoclassical’, there is a somewhat traditional feeling of simplicity on Tasten as all of the 9 tracks are made up solely from three Steinway grand pianos. It’s a crisp formula; cuts like Über den Dächern and Brandung exude a kind of cinematic stillness. The most effective moment of the record comes in the shape of the closer, Abends ganz leis, where the three pianos find shared ground for a composition that is just as stirring as any padded out orchestration.
