Stirring up Scotland’s techno scene since 2008 as Simon Stokes, the Edinburgh producer presents his full-length debut as Petrichor on Glasgow’s Soma Recordings. Although Stokes took field recordings as a starting point for his imaginative soundscapes, the perpetual rhythms of ’State Function’ or ‘Flight Behaviour’ could suggest it's still a techno album: an assumption that is quickly counteracted by the ambient loops of ’Nukumori (Reprise)’, the gently floating synth pads of ‘Antigen’ and the evolving, eventually mutating arpeggios of ‘Amor Fati’. It feels as if Stokes vividly mirrors his natural environment, transforming it into the most organic electronic music since musique concrète.
