Spatial reboots his Infrasonics label, dormant since 2012, with a 12” of smudged techno. While Spatial’s releases for the likes of Jimmy Edgar’s Ultramajic and the late, great Well Rounded Records felt fast-hitting and spontaneous, this single is far more restrained, deliberately restricting itself to a simplified sound palette. If that description makes this sound stilted and joyless, think again: b-side ‘Referent’ oozes personality despite being made of little more than some kicks, some snares, one synth sound, and FX.
