Dynamic duo Italian duo Unknot arrive on the scene with the first manifestation of their claustrophobic, sound-design informed techno sound with a self-titled debut EP on their own self-titled imprint. Already garnering support from the likes of Samuel Kerridge, Lucy and Eomac, Unknot’s take on techno is steeped in paranoia and suspended in a dense, neurotic microcosm; evident from the hulking, off-kilter drums and scarified noise of ‘Modem’ and the muffled, Alan R. Splet-esque palpitations of harrowing two part piece ‘Mutuality’. The beat-driven ‘Magha’ show the pair have and ear for the club too, albeit the gloomiest on environments, with feathered hi-hats and a lonely, droning horn conjuring up an ominous atmosphere.
