More moving music from the Hamburg house of house: Smallville welcome back German producer Stephan Laubner after his recent affairs with Lick My Deck and Echochord. Following his Disconnected Moments album for the label in 2014, the Simply Positive EP evokes a similarly hardware-loving aesthetic, yet aims more clearly at spreading euphoria than the full-length: ‘Heaven’s Vape’ layers its groovy bass line, lo-fi percussive elements and multiple synths sequences cleverly to create appealing rhythmic shifts — they’re echoed on the B-side which pushes forward with a classic kick-and-clap house beat, complexing its structure as it progresses.
