Adrian Sherwood’s pioneering On-U Sound label reissue four albums from psychedelic dub ensemble African Head Charge. Formed in the 1980s around percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah and Adrian Sherwood, African Head Charge take both their name and their inspiration from Brian Eno and David Byrne’s seminal album My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts, taking the concept of ‘psychedelic Africa’ to new places. On their 1981 debut My Life In A Hole In The Ground, the duo mix sparse and skeletal dub FX with traditional rhythms and smoky jazz excursions. Included is ‘Far Away Chant’, used in an infamously grisly scene from David Lynch’s Wild At Heart.
