Brighton producer Stephen Maskell returns after dropping the techno mastery of Live From Concrete Island, this second release helps pin down his DIY brand of shivering, chewy techno. From the slowly constructed breakbeat velocity of Supermalt VIP to the rich textural scale of Crushed Memory Era, there is more ambition in Maskell’s sound on this LP but it hasn’t lost its edge. His harnessing and deployment of electronic blueprints is rooted more in his record collection than his technical knowledge. What that gives us is a sound that is raw and unpolished but boundless in ideas.
