As part of their endeavour of gradually reissuing the gems of their back catalogue, West London indie oldies Beggars Banquet turn their attention to British post-punk group The Fall. The Wonderful And Frightening Escape Route To The Fall includes the songs the band wrote and released around their 1984 album The Wonderful And Frightening World Of The Fall. It comprises of the EP Call For The Escape Route and material from the two singles ‘Oh Brother’ (an older song from 1977, reincarnated for the release) and ‘C.R.E.E.P.’, which were all part of the extended cassette version of the album. Especially the two singles are a stunning example for Mark E. White’s characteristically cryptic lyrics, the harmonic shifts placing it more towards new wave and further away from the group’s abrasive guitar sound. As their first material released on Beggars Banquet, it marked the beginning of a series of now highly regarded works such as 1985’s This Nation's Saving Grace or 1988’s The Frenz Experiment.
