Turin-based producer Daniele Mana aka Vaghe Stelle debuts on Nicolas Jaar’s Other People imprint with a mini LP of epic proportions. Abstract Speed + Sound sees Mana refine his style of multi-coloured digital explorations showcased on previous efforts for Astro:Dynamics, Gang Of Ducks and Danse Noire. With the title referencing Giacomo Balla’s 1914 painting of the same name, Mana traces the Italian Futurist movement, playing with its implications as the origin of experimental music. Like its apt associations, ‘Multiple Concentric Hexagons’ works in imaginative frameworks, conjuring up grande electronics and beat laden gigabytes — disembodied vocal samples taken from classic Italian films open up new layers of meaning throughout, blurring history and present as much as reality and delusion.
