Hot on the heels of their second album as The Fear Ratio for Skam, prolific UK producers James Ruskin and Mark Broom drop two edits as R&B for the Blueprint Ltd series. It’s the sixth instalment in the series of limited releases on the London label headed by Ruskin himself, following Rumah & Progression's excellent collaborative EP of big room techno from 2014. The A-side presses ahead with rolling subs and agitated synths, creating that all-encompassing ambience of urgency, texturally roughened by infusions of rasping sounds. On the flip, both bass and kick appear more muscular, seething underneath prominently staged hi-hats, effectively accumulated to build tension before the redemptive drop.
