Elusive London producer U lands on Ninja Tune’s Technicolour with the We Decide Who Come In EP. Discovered by George Fitzgerald on a holiday in Greece, he has since grabbed our attention with releases for ManMakeMusic and Erol Alkan’s Phantasy Sound, and this is equally worth sitting up and taking notice: ‘Our Place’ cleverly plays with texture, its scraping ambient synth giving way to a comparatively clean beat and its melody only fully unfolding after a meditative period of anticipation. Although ‘Oma’ has a more continuous feel to it, you’d be surprised at its levels of progression, whereas ‘Easy Prayer’ breaks things up into frantic fragments. ‘Arcane Fantasy’ is sound become catharsis, eliminating the beat’s last breaths on what turns into a pure prelude for electric piano.
