LA-based noise purveyor Dominick Fernow follows up 2011’s Bermuda Drain with the double album Frozen Niagara Falls on the Canadian Profound Lore imprint. It’s hard to argue with his two decades of recording history; on these 90 minutes, he eloquently exercises his talent once again. After the technoid intermezzo Through The Window on Blackest Ever Black in 2013, Frozen Niagara Falls sees Fernow combine his different musical influences to an opus of cross-referential sound. The distorted industrial vocals of ‘Dragonflies To Sew You Up’ and the voiceless screaming of ‘Every Relationship Earthrise' find their unprocessed equivalent in the spoken word part on ‘Greenpoint’, the high frequency drones of the opener in the dreading subs of ‘Cocaine Daughter’. In comes the acoustic prelude of ‘Greenpoint’, while the ear boxing percussion prevails, and underneath it all awaits a supercharged boiler of noise, that — when unleashed at times — bursts out with dangerously high pressure (‘Poinsettia Pills’).
