Untold affiliates experimental London producer Brood Ma to his Hemlock roster: following the digital release of his album Populous on the Quantum Natives imprint in 2014, this edition comes on vinyl. The full-length debut sounds the depth of the intersection between ambient, grime and noise — reflecting current trends in a timely fashion, not dissimilar to the bulk of Untold’s productions that work with disorienting fragmentation at their core. By the time the album gets to ‘Fortran’, the chaotic layers of noise and rhythm are peeling off to reveal a glimpse at colourful harmonies, played by weighty vocal-style synths — deceiving, as the crystalline shard patterns of ‘iBeam’ cause adequate discomfort in their shrieking high-frequencies, and the album succumbs to its million shattered pieces.
