Reissue of the debut album for rhythm and blues group Booker T and The MG’s. This instrumental R&B album was recorded in 1962 and originally released on Stax Records in October of that year. Booker T and The MG’s formed in 1960’s as the house band for the Memphis, Tennessee label, Stax Records, and have been cited as shaping the sound of Southern and Memphis soul. Green Onions features Booker T Jones on his Hammond organ, Steve Cooper on guitar, Lewie Steinberg on bass and Al Jackson Jr on drums. Highlights on the album include the rippling, sun-kissed organ rhythms on the Booker T and The MG’s classic ‘Green Onions’ and the fun, jazzy cover of Phil Medley and Bert Berns’s ‘Twist And Shout’.
