Music On Vinyl continue their commitment to high quality reissues with a newly mastered 180 gram vinyl version of this seminal Charles Mingus album. Recorded in 1959, the album takes in hard bop, blues and avant-garde jazz, all driven by Mingus’ never-bettered upright bass. The original Columbia issue of the album shortened 6 of the 9 tracks to fit on the LP; this reissue is the first chance to hear the album in its full glory on vinyl. The Lester Young tribute ‘Goodbye Pork Pie Hat’ is rightly revered as a classic of the jazz canon, whilst ‘Better Git In Your Soul’ has an unmistakably gospel tone. If you’re a newcomer to this era of jazz this is a great place to start, whilst aficionados will relish the opportunity to listen to the album in the way Mingus intended it.
