Much like his friend and long-time collaborator Flying Lotus, The Gaslamp Killer’s indefinable sound has always triumphed most in the live setting. This recording is taken from an unsurprisingly sold-out show at the Mayan Theatre in LA. The performance came after his near-death accident and the Killer took to the stage against the advice of family, friends and even medical professionals. Recorded in one take, his 15-piece band were conducted wirelessly via iPad and it was the elaborate and beguiling setup that he took to Coachella for a string of victorious comeback performances. As is clear on the 13 minute closer of 'Keep It Simple Stupid', this is The Gaslamp Killer reawakened. Creatively unshackled, genuinely excited about his own work and brilliantly bizarre.
