Bristol-based Hamish Trevis aka Kinlaw lands on London’s Ramp Recordings with a super bassy debut EP. Judging from the effectively rolling subs on the opener, New Palms, Pt. 1 could be mistaken for a clear departure from his previous efforts for the experimental Reckno imprint — but the beat collage style that characterises his earlier albums still shines through on the second half of the EP. The processed samples of Bastet and Nichiren create a mystical atmosphere, their distorted surfaces amount to textural depth and dramatically oppose the clean bass sounds and sharp cutting hi-hats.
