San Francisco-based beat maker Brandon Ruffin debuts on LA’s Alpha Pub Records with his first full-length as Ruff Draft. Although Ruffin has been active under his J-Dilla-honouring moniker for almost a decade, he only released his debut EP in 2012. On Illusion Fracture, he creates colourful soundscapes that are rooted in the realm of instrumental hip hop: his stumbling beat constructions provide the basis for jazzy electric piano scales (‘Curries and Cookies’), pressing electro synth arpeggios (‘Expansions’) and multi-layered hymnal compositions (‘Behaving Poorly’).
