Another product of the mutual respect and creative solidarity shared between Phillip Glass and David Bowie. 6 compositions based on Bowie’s seminal 1977 record Heroes. As you might expect from a collaboration of this scale, the symphonies have popped up in all corners of popular culture. Whether it was at the launch McQueen’s 2007 menswear range or Aphex’s 2003 rework, the ambitious and stunning compositions have reappeared on account of their timeless quality and enduring majesty. Rather than just replicating Bowie’s sounds, Glass used them as a blueprint to make something worlds apart but just as familiar.
