Rereleased on Vinyl for the first time, Music On Vinyl reissue Nina Simone’s 1965 studio album Pastel Blue. A compelling collection of tracks incorporating blues, jazz and soul, featuring jazz bassist Lisle Atkinson and Simone with her trademark crisp piano playing and powerful vocals. Recorded between 1964-65 in New York City and originally released by Philips Records, the album starts off with the clapped rhythm and vocal hollers of ‘Be My Husband’. The release also features ‘Nobody Knows When You're Down And Out’, originally sung by Bessie Smith and ‘Strange Fruit’ a song first sang and recorded by Billie Holiday. Pastel Blue ends with Simone’s arresting 10-minute ‘Sinnerman’ track which has been sampled by the likes of Kanye West, Talib Kweli and Felix da Housecat.
