Like Water for Chocolate is the fourth studio album of Chicago rapper Common. Released in 2000, it’s a rare example of a major label album putting forward a socially conscious agenda: with congas and saxophone featuring on the opening Time Travelin' (A Tribute To Fela), it makes references to Afrobeat and its pioneer, political activist Fela Kuti. Executively produced by Questlove, Like Water For Chocolate also features a number of excellent collaborations: J Dilla stars as a singer on ‘Nag Champa (Afrodisiac For The World)’, and D’Angelo (quite obviously) laid hands on the production of the funky ‘Geto Heaven Part Two’.
