Having initiated Delsin’s Mantis series in 2020, Forest Drive West returns to chop up all manner of club sounds. Strictly speaking this is a “double pack” of Mantis 19 & 20, but presented as a 2xLP it marks his first full length since 2018’s Apparitions, pitting the crashing, clattering fragments of tense and twisted dubstep and D&B against the lushness of tracks like ‘Latent’ whose squeaky chirps slowly increase with punctuation until arriving at pulsating rhythms. Through imposing atmospheres, swathes of cymbals aerate tumbling grooves and rumbling subs, as Forest Drive West deconstructs dub and more with shifting rhythms and rebounding layers of drums.
