UK jazz futurists Ezra Collective are back on Partisan Records for an ambitious new LP of Black diasporic sounds entitled Here Because of Hope. Conceived as a journey through sound and time, Here Because of Hope traces the evolutionary influence of Black art around the world. Split into three distinct movements, Ezra Collective begins this tale in Africa, through the Caribbean, and onto the shores of London, dipping into sounds and narratives native to those areas. Though the quintet don’t shy away from pain and darkness here there are also bright beams of light in their arrangements, finding hope in the continued story of these sounds.
