Japanese producer Tujiko Noriko returns once again to the Editions Mego label for her sixth LP entitled Pon. Dedicated to Noriko’s beloved, recently deceased cat, the album stakes out a tranquil space somewhere between restorative, environmental ambient music and early synth pop. The gargantuan ‘Knife of Yonder’ works something like a thesis then: moving from arching low-toned drones to a symphonically rich middle section and ending with some smokey blues guitar licks that draw just as much emotion as any of the vocal guests.
