Born from mutual adoration, Almost Waking finds Bill Orcutt and Mabe Fratti trading files from afar to create a debut collaboration with immense presence. Responsive duets between guitar, cello and vocals revolve in a pastoral mesh of chamber folk arrangements, soaring on the title track with rippling lakefront guitar and rolling hills of sweeping cello. As a duo, their sound colours pensive moods with incredible range and complex writing, such as the shining silken harmonies of ‘El inicio es cuestión de suerte’ over gentle jagged gnarls of looping guitar phrases.
