After a relatively mute period New York lynchpin DJ QU checks back into his own fine Strength Music imprint with one of his boldest offerings to date on the Redtones EP. The opening title cut sees QU back at his best, cooking up some dark tribal hues with a drugged march and dizzying chord gyrations before plunging into the pensive, piano-laden slice of sentimental downtempo ‘Sadness In The Static’. The final cut ‘Sweaty One’ reverts back to the producer’s trademark sinister stomp, offloading cohorts of wobble board bass, tripping sonics and misfiring bleeps for a heady tonic that’ll appease the basement masses.
