To celebrate the 40th birthday of the legendary 1974 science fiction film ‘Space Is The Place’ and Sun Ra’s boundary pushing experimental jazz soundtrack, box set specialists Harte Recording have compiled a comprehensive collection of ephemera: Sun Ra’s vocal chants, harsh synthesizer and organ blasts along with film dialogue, heavy percussion and just all around weirdness are featured as restored versions of both the original cut of Space Is The Place and the uncut version (both with remixed sound by Gary Hobish). Harte Recording added two additional tracks that were never present on the soundtrack release, but are in the film — which you’ll find on the DVD alongside Sun Ra & Arkestra home movies. The box set also includes a 125 page book with essays from screenplay writer Seth Hill and director John Coney as well as a foreword by Wayne Coyne of The Flaming Lips.
