Hailing from Grantham in the Nottingham area, this is the 2014 full length from Sleaford Mods. Their ethos is clear from the off: do away with the passive mind-numbing rigmarole of consumerist Britain and build something with a little more bite. Through vituperative lyricism on tracks like You’re Brave and Middle Men, the Mods blend the nanoscopic details of their discrepancies with “the metropolis of discontent” with a catastrophic - almost apocalyptic - sense of dread. The sermonising rattles against minimal production and creates a sound that is darkly comic and truly invigorating.
