The beginning of what is arguably the defining collection of music in Carsten Nicolai’s career: Xerrox Vol.1 introduced the sonic simulacra of the Xerrox collection, stretching glitches, drones, and crackling energy across almost two decades. What starts as sputtering machine noise is endlessly copied and elongated into emotive harmonic arrangements: infinitely sustained string loops waver through a blistering downpour of noise, a tender torrent with catharsis buried in corrosion. Like the fine buzz of insect wings, raw sound shreds and screeches into softer swells of abyssal ambient ebbs and flows.
