London label Foom launch a new release series of unknown material from the archives of US avant-garde composer Peter Gordon. Following Gordon’s DFA retrospective and his collaboration with Factory Floor for Optimo music, the series’ first instalment depicts The Love Of Life Orchestra’s fantastic live performance of Symphony #5 at Brooklyn's Roulette concert hall in June 2013, recorded from multiple perspectives with close and room microphones and produced by iconic Jeff Jones (Public Enemy, Willie Nelson). It took Gordon six years to compose the five movements of the 40-minute piece - if anything, the determined accordions, dramatic piano keys, syncopated arrangements and contemplative trumpet melodies (played by Gordon’s son Max) radiate the energy and thought Gordon has clearly put into this work.
