The much loved, Glasgow-based Numbers crew raid the vaults of Chicago legend DJ Deeon and compile a selection of some of their personal, early favourites taken from the artist’s innumerable classic Dance Mania releases. First up is the roughshod, Chicago re-rub of the Loose Joints classic ‘2 Be Free’, which cleverly weaves the producer’s tough jack to one of the most timeless disco hooks in creation, followed by the simple yet utterly devastating ghetto-house anthem ‘House-O-Matic’. No Deeon compilation would be complete without one of his more provocative numbers, and the Scotsmen couldn’t do better than the spluttering ‘Freak Like Me’, whereas the deadpan chords and pummeling drum work of ‘The 604’ covers tougher, yet still undeniably funky ground.
