Happy Skull roll into 2015 with a heavy Detroit influenced 12” from UK based producer Creta Kano, who takes her name from a character and self-styled ‘prostitute of the mind’ in Haruki Murakami’s Wind Up Bird Chronicles. ‘Skyway Motel’ is a gritty but atmospheric electro cut, evoking the retro futurism of Ceephax’s Cro Magnox LP from 2013, while ‘False Water’ has a stifled, sub-marine vibe to it, like Burial curating a rave at an aquarium. Closer ‘Skyway 81’ drops the tempo to a crawl, summoning up a lurching, pitched-down alter-ego to ‘Skyway Motel’’s proto-synth bounce.
