Swedish musicians Martin Rössel and Carl Michael von Hausswolff present their first collaborative effort in recorded form on iconic East German label Raster Noton. Ununoctium marks the eighths and second last instalment of the imprint’s unun series, which features evolving artists and is conceptualised around the atomic numbers 111-119 of the periodic table of chemical elements. In a broader context, the EP’s titles reflect this science-y character, referencing calculus inventor Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz and computation theory pioneer Ramon Llull - whose work laid the foundation of the binary system. Gomila Park explore the intersection between hard rock and industrial techno: on ‘Leibniz’, they play around with aggressive kick drums and heavily distorted guitar sounds. Although the overdrive effect prevails on ’Ramon Llull’, the track sees them switch to analogue synth sounds, fading out in freeform experiments in the shape of ‘Calculus’.
