Supergroup free jazz collective Irreversible Entanglements thread time and space together on their second album for Impulse!, Future, Present, Past. Drums tumble forth in a froth of cymbals, and each performer joins into a swaying groove on ‘Don’t Lose Your Head’, an active and colourful call to action and movement. Steadfast vocals remind us to keep focus while instruments coil around: “It’s time to organize and plan, inspiration for your creation.” Double bass morphs that melodic line into something more cosmic on ‘Vibrate Higher’, blending wailing sax, emphatic vocals, and ferocious percussion into a fluid and fluctuating whole.
