Death Waltz Recording Company and One Way Static Records join forces to present us the first ever vinyl pressing of Riz Ortolani’s soundtrack to the legendary 1980 horror film Cannibal Holocaust. Directed by Ruggero Deodato and filmed mostly in the Amazon Rainforest with indigenous tribes, the Italian production was banned in 50 countries because of its extremely graphic content, which is now featured on the vinyl edition’s gatefold cover (not to worry, snuff film allegations were found to be false and murder charges against Deodato were dropped). Deodato commissioned Ortolani to compose the soundtrack because of his previous work in Mondo Cane. The morbidly dreamy main theme deceives us with its gentle major melody that would perfectly work as a soundtrack for panoramic views of the Alps, and the funky Fender Rhodes pianos of ‘Drinking Coco’ don’t give away much of the film’s violence either, but surely stimulate our imagination.
