Berlin techno mad scientists Modeselektor are back on their own Monkeytown Records imprint for the first in a planned “Classics” series of compilations. What started as a nostalgia exercise in re-recordings of their earliest material quickly devolved into something more elaborate, unique and wholly Modeselektor. Using stems and samples from their first 2 albums as a guide, the duo fully reimagines this music, creating something totally new from those early efforts. In that sense, Classics Vol. 1 pays tribute to the spirit of technological discovery that has always served as Modeselektor’s engine while also offering a heartfelt look back from where they’ve come.
