Following a string of low-key CD-R and online releases, as well as a production credit for Hype Williams’ Black Is Beautiful, the enigmatic John T. Gast drops a 4 track 12” for Men Scryfa in advance of his imminent full debut LP on Planet Mu. Gast excels in uniting the natural and the industrial - ‘Gunpowder’ is like a symphony orchestra rehearsing in the basement of a sheet-metal factory, while ‘Jah Zeus’ draws unexpected exuberance from a range of clanking, crashing found-sound percussion. ‘Son Of Thunder’ pairs sci-fi synth-work with hypnotic reversed beats, while closer ‘Exile’ takes a surprise change of tack with a gentle, piano-led instrumental ballad.
