Ten years since Carla dal Forno released her solo debut, she both refines and reimagines her music practice with her fourth LP Confession. Matter of fact lyrics breeze over slick bass licks and drum machines on the opening cut ‘Going Out’, dal Forno unravels a kind of guilty longing as synths sigh, exploring a more direct form of songwriting that still lifts and enthralls. Punctuating through the album’s sunrise melt of guitars are the long splashes of snares and offset reggae sunrays on the title track, while the horn stabs and slow funk anticipation of ‘On The Ward’ find dal Forno skulking around the empty hospital space she turned into a recording studio.
