Shinichi Atobe has come a long way from his fabled Chain Reaction debut in 2001; a quarter of a century later he releases the first full length album on his very own Plastic & Sounds label. Much of this time has been spent honing his craft in silence, powered by a constant drive to make music that results in Silent Way. The spindly opener ‘intro 6.1’ experiments with low frequency murmurs pulsing in between piercing fragments of percussion, while ‘Rain 1’ contorts the hip hop rhythms Atobe lapped up in his youth in Tokyo, contrasted by glittery crystalline melodies straight out of a dream.
