German indie pop experimentalists The Notwist return from a long slumber with a new LP on longtime home Morr Music entitled News From Planet Zombie. Recorded (mostly) live at Munich DIY venue Import Export, News From Planet Zombie is something of a lower key return from The Notwist, a deep breath or a letting of their collective hair down. Forever a group in conversation with the music and art of the west, they cover both Neil Young and Athens, Georgia folk-pop oddities Lovers here, two artists that feel like something of a skeleton key to the poppier, and altogether more human feel of this LP. To wit, the sparse ‘Who We Used To Be’ takes stock of their archer past offerings with a sly smile.
