With their 2014 album Spectre for Mute, Slovenian avantgarde group Laibach put controversial current affairs such as Snowden, WikiLeaks, and the Arab spring on their agenda, making a both political and musical statement about resistance. For Spectremix, they’ve invited a number of artists to join the conversation: Mute presents a collection of reworks. Marcel Dettmann shows their marching pop anthem ‘Whistleblower’ from a techno perspective, whereas labelmates Diamond Version (aka Olaf Bender and Carsten Nicolai) dress the whistling in garments of dark wave. Slovenian producer, DJ and musician Gramatik channels the energetic spirit of ‘Eat Liver’ into a pushing electro sound, and Scottish DJ and producer Alex Smoke heats up the debate with the dehumanised vocals of Koran.
