PAN drops a carefully crafted surprise live LP from Australian experimental superhero Oren Ambarchi, capturing two performances of his piece Knots, originally featured on his 2012 album Audience Of One. Having released on comparable institutions such as Editions Mego, Touch and Kranky, his first work for the Berlin label seems long overdue, and PAN welcome him as a matter of course with label boss Bill Kouligas providing the artwork and Rashad Becker taking over the mastering at D&M. Showing the piece in two different set-ups, this LP sums up the multifacetedness Ambarchi’s work is all about. The A-side was recorded at the Tokyo venue SuperDeluxe in March 2013 where he performed Knots with fellow Australian percussionist Joe Talia as a duo, whereas the B-side reflects Ambarchi’s and Talia’s performance at Unsound Festival in Krakow in 2013 with strings played by the Sinfonietta Cracovia, led by Eyvind Kang on viola.
