The second release from club / festival promoters Bloc’s new self-titled label venture comes in quick succession, with Mancunian techno engineer Alex Coulton offering up his Freefall EP. Coulton’s penchant for dark, quaking club constructions have become known through strong releases on All Caps, Livity Sound offshoot Dnuos-Ytivil and Idle Hands; his serving here follows suit with the throbbing, tension laced killer ‘Freefall’ and ‘Antagonise’ – a similarly hefty dub techno cut with ice-cold Chain Reaction-styled stabs. On remix duty, Dave Sumner and Ed Davenport unleash their joint Function / Inland project for a take on the title cut, opening up a engulfing sinkhole with synapse singeing chords and hypnotic doubled up drums.
