In the woe of Winter and early 2020s world affairs, Kevin Richard Martin decided to slow his music down even further when everyone else was aching to speed up again. Sub Zero presented dub in cryofreeze: trudging barely there rhythms shrouded in icy shimmers, blades of sonic snow ripping past, and buffeting, brutalist ambient noise. It’s among his most minimal work, patiently eking out sorrowful stillness in the battering cold as he envelops the ears with frigid hiss and glacial hum, while ghostly echoes hide in the resonant waves of sound.
