Virginia Beach brotherly rap duo Clipse cap off their momentous reunion year with a series of much-needed vinyl reissues of their back catalogue on CMG. Originally produced by the ubiquitous at the time, powerhouse production duo The Neptunes and issued on their Star Trak imprint it's a trio of albums that stand among the finest collections from an especially furtive period of Southern hip hop. The campaign of course starts with Clipse’s 2022 debut Lord Willin’. Something of a far cry from the slower, more low-end heavy sound of their era’s contemporaries, Clipse came out swinging here on beats like the brassy, almost jubilant ‘Young Boy’ and ‘Got Damn’, while trading bars about the ins and outs of drug dealing with exacting precision. The clubby ‘Grindin’ even finds room for dancehall phenom Sean Paul to do his thing.
