Australian producer Jasmine Guffond presents her first project under her own name on Berlin’s handicraft label Sonic Pieces. Moving away from the experimental electronics and melodious folk of her previous projects Minit and Jasmina Maschina, Yellow Bell goes beyond a singular musical approach – creating her intricate soundscapes with digital synthesizer, loops, processed voice, and guitar. ‘Lisa’s Opening’ quotes the opening tape loop of William Basinski’s Melancholia, but Guffond builds a sonic world of her own: elements of minimalist piano arpeggios merge into threads of string, macro shots of insect-sized percussion and distant, reverberant memories of peculiar harmonies.
