Hugely anticipated debut album from Pearson Sound for the Hessle Audio imprint he co-runs with Ben UFO & Pangaea. Arriving on the scene back in 2006 under the name Ramadanman it wasn't until 2008 until Kennedy started to get real recognition for his FWD-thinking approach to bass-heavy club music, dropping a slew of killer 12"s on labels as highly lauded as Soul Jazz, 2nd Drop, and Hessle Audio. Around this time he also released a series of collaborative singles with Appleblim on the Apple Pips label and Aus Music (who commissioned Detroit techno legend Carl Craig to remix a track by the pair) these early releases showcased an affinity with the more straight house and techno sounds creeping into the dubstep movement around this time. In 2009 he unveiled his Pearson Sound moniker to diversify his releases between the weighty bass music and leftfield percussive workouts he was also producing, this lead to some incredible releases on Swamp 81 - the fractured Baltimore club construction 'Work them', spacious DNB for the Darkestral Galaxicos imprint, a super ltd refix white label for Night Slugs and a collab with Joy O and Boddika on SunkLo. So if you haven't guessed it yet, Pearson Sound is a producer who is highly regarded for the right reasons in the electronic music world. His debut album has been cooking for some time and we can tell you it does not disappoint! Opener 'Asphalt Sparkle' kicks things off with a slow-mo grime indebted number before we get treated to some classic Ramadanman/Pearson drum workout house with extra bass on 'Glass Eye' while on 'Gristle' Kennedy used the album format to explore more experimental electronic structures. 'Crank Call' sounds like a cross between early Chicago house and the Modern Love school of experimentation a la Demdike Elemental-era. Things take a sideline into a more ambient-rooted space with 'Russet' though the tough drums soon roll through before glassy chords slide into view smoothing things over through to the end. All in all a great selection of tracks with tight flow that will move raves, clubs & bedrooms alike.
