Musique Pour La Danse presents Collected #1, a career retrospective of Belgian new beat producer Rembert de Smet, aka Ro Maron. De Smet’s relentless work ethic and the high quality of his output have made him synonymous with the short-lived but highly influential new beat scene of the late eighties, itself a crucial forebear to the wider European techno movement, and acid house in particular. The tone of this compilation is set right from the first bars of Zsa Zsa La Boum’s ‘Something Scary’ – this is visceral, full-frontal acid funk that wears its 303 loops the way a stripper wears a feather boa.
