Coming via the ever-present Skudge Records, MRSK and Thomas Jaldemark’s joint Fishermen project offers out their clouded, ode-to-the-ocean debut LP Patterns And Paths to a divergent faction of artists for a suite of alternate interpretations. Who better to extract the desecrated energy from a track than William Bennett as Cut Hands, with the ex-Whitehouse man lacing ‘Serpents’ with his trademark voodoo racket set against the disturbing caw of a flock of seagulls. L.I.E.S affiliate Florian Kupfer picks up these witchcraft themes on his remix of the same, layering fluttered steel drums over a groggy throb for an equally alchemic version whereas Steve Bicknell’s streamlines ‘Dyspnea’ for a hypnotic techno roller. Lastly Swedish duo Ulwhednar tackle ‘Sunken Mosque’, conjuring up a dark, anxious mood with a dingy drone and breakneck hand drumming, earning themselves credits for the most intrepid remix of the pack in the process.
