19 year-old French-Cuban twins, Naomi and Lisa-Kainde Diaz, release their debut album on XL produced by Richard Russell. Transforming from virtual unknowns to sweethearts of the indie press, Ibeyi really are an enigma worth unravelling. Their hybridised sound is one of rich melody, stark production and earthly sounds creating an experience that sounds organic and polished at the same time. Lead single River is a remarkable track with pathos and drive executed between sinister vocals and pattering percussion. Ibeyi’s multi-cultural ethos and genre-busting sound makes this a hard LP to define, but that is all part of their thrillingly hypnotic mystique.
